On the 9th July 2005, the Bury Bombers organised a marathon day of wheelchair basketball to help raise money for the coming season. The Bombers are entering teams in both Junior League and Division 4!
Ten teams from local businesses and organisations were invited to challenge the Bury Bombers. Each team donated at least £100 and were allocated an hour, where they were firstly coached by Hugh and Jill and then played matches. There were two of these groups in the hour’s slot. Each team played the Bury Bombers and then they played each other at the end.
The day was a no-stop affair for the Bury Bombers players and organisers; including the volunteer cooks on the BBQ, which was very popular. Nevertheless, everyone had a fantastic time, and all the team members said how great an event it was. Many even asked when we are doing it again!?!
The team would like to thank everyone that took part as the day ran extremely well, especially considering it was the first time we had every run anything like it. We are grateful to
Gordon Perry from GBWBA, who provided extra wheelchairs. The whole event has raised over £2000.
Look out for the next event!!!
