The Bury Bombers train every Thursday from 6.30pm - 9.00pm. In these training sessions a number of different skills are developed. Shooting is one of the most important parts of wheelchair basketball, so shooting practice is an important part of our training sessions. This is also true for wheelchair control, passing skills and ball control. To improve our players ability in these aspects of the game, a number of drills are used. Some examples of these drills are:
- To improve passing ability we do the ‘Square’.
- To improve chair control and player stamina we do ‘Suicides’.
- To improve shooting ability we do layups and shooting around the Key.
Match play is probably the most important part of the game, as it determines how the team can work together to achieve baskets. There are a number of drills that we practice to try and improve our players match play ability. These drills are as follows:
- The Give and Go Drill
- The Simple Pick
- The Roll
There are also two very simple drills that we have taught our players so they may be able to get themselves into the restricted area (the Key). These drills are called:
- The Fake Shot
- The Fake Drive
If you would like more information on these last five drills, then you are welcome to download the details of how they work.
